The Vietnamese women’s team won the last official spot for Asian teams to attend the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, after beating Taiwan (China) 2-1 on the afternoon of February 6 at DY Patil Stadium, India. Chuong Thi Kieu and Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy are the two scorers for the Vietnamese women’s team. The team struggled due to multiple cases of COVID-19 in the squad ahead of this tournament, but overcame adverse conditions to qualify for the World Cup for the first time.

Before the women’s team, Vietnamese football only had the U20 men’s team (in 2017) and the men’s futsal team (in 2016 and 2021) that had won tickets to the World Cup. Therefore, the victory of coach Mai Duc Chung’s team is a memorable milestone in the history of Vietnamese football.
